Visions of Japan (2023) by Julian Chokkattu

It has been more than two years since I’ve last uploaded to my website (sorry!). Here are some of my favorite photos from my trip to Japan last year for my honeymoon. We went in May and started in Tokyo, then Sapporo, Takayama, Hiroshima, Itsukushima Shrine, and then Fukuoka (and we flew back out from Tokyo again). This was our second trip to Japan following our 2018 visit, where we went to Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka.

Return to Iceland by Julian Chokkattu

It’s been more than a year since I last posted, but hey, this one’s actually travel-related! Yaling and I went back to Iceland in late July through early August. We drove around the Ring Road again, but unlike our 2015 trip, this time we drove clockwise. We made sure to hit the Westfjords, which we missed on the last trip. We’re lucky to have been able to travel during a pandemic (and remain safe), so we’re thankful. If you’ve never been to Iceland, these pictures will hopefully convince you it’s worth it?

Japan by Julian Chokkattu

I took more than 1,000 photos in Japan, and editing all of them has made me want to go back. It’s a country I have always wanted to visit, even before I attempted to study the language for two years in college (I failed). It’s a beautiful country, with incredible food, and did I mention the almost perfect infrastructure?

Before I start rambling forever, here are the photos you want to see. It starts with Tokyo, then Kyoto, into Nara and Osaka briefly, and then finally back to Tokyo.

Portland, Maine by Julian Chokkattu

I'm still here! I haven't posted since last April, but that's largely because I haven't gone on many long vacations -- that doesn't mean I haven't traveled.

I went to Portland, Maine last summer, and took a lot of photos with a variety of phones for work. Most of them never got published, so I decided I may as well post them now. I did the same late last year with a short trip to San Francisco, so I'll post those photos soon as well.

While I have traveled to other countries since then, the trips have been for work and I've used my phone to take photos more than my DSLR. I put off uploading them to this site, but I realized there's no point in only uploading photos from my DSLR, as smartphones can take excellent photos. I'll be uploading more from these smaller trips soon. I'll be heading to Japan later this year, and I plan to use my DSLR extensively during my trip.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from Maine -- some are taken with a DSLR.
